02 · What we build

Start where AI pays off first.

A focused engagement that turns “we should be doing something with AI” into a ranked list, a 90-day plan and clear decisions about what to build, buy or skip.

What it is

Most companies do not lack AI ideas. They lack a way to choose between them. We interview the people who do the work, inventory the workflows, and score each opportunity on impact, effort, risk and data readiness.

The result is short and specific: the two or three things worth doing first, what each should return, what it depends on, and what to leave alone for now.

In practice

What the research says about where to focus

There is room to move

Census data through May 2026 show 17 to 20 percent of U.S. businesses using AI, and adoption among firms under 20 employees was flat over the period. Being early is still possible.

Adoption is broad, depth is not

The Stanford AI Index reports 88 percent of organizations using AI in some form. Using it and getting value from it are different things, and the gap is mostly about how work is organized.

It is mostly about people

Microsoft's 2026 Work Trend Index found organizational factors such as culture and manager support account for 67 percent of reported AI impact, against 32 percent for individual mindset.

Managers set the pace

In the same study, 85 percent of the most advanced AI users said their managers openly model AI use, compared with 64 percent of their peers.

What we build

What you get

  • Interviews with owners, managers and the people doing the work
  • A workflow inventory with rough time and cost for each
  • An opportunity scorecard: impact, effort, risk, data readiness
  • A 90-day plan with owners, milestones and success measures
  • Build, buy or skip recommendations, including off-the-shelf tools when they are enough
  • A leadership readout you can act on the next day
How it runs

A typical engagement

  1. ListenConversations with the people closest to the work, not just leadership.
  2. MapWhere time, money and errors pile up today.
  3. ScoreEach idea rated honestly on payoff, effort, risk and data.
  4. DecideA short plan you can start on Monday, and a list of things to skip.

A good fit if

  • You know AI matters and are unsure where to begin
  • You tried a tool or two and they did not stick
  • Leadership needs a shared, plain-language picture

Probably not a fit if

  • You already know exactly what to build and just need a builder
  • You want a 60-page report that no one will read
Questions

Common questions

How long does it take?

It is short and time-boxed. We agree the length and the outputs before we start, based on the size of your team and how many workflows we need to look at.

Will you just recommend your own services?

We recommend what fits, including off-the-shelf software or doing nothing when that is the right call. A strategy that always ends in a build is not a strategy.

Do we need technical staff?

No. We work with owners and operators. If you have IT people, we involve them for the systems and security questions.
